Born during the final years of World War II, Ritz Theater came to life under the direction of the War Production Board — its construction tied directly to Clinton's proximity to the top-secret facilities at Oak Ridge. When it opened in 1945, it was considered one of the most modern theaters in the entire South.
Sitting proudly on Main Street across from the Anderson County Courthouse, this Art Deco gem has seen generations of Clinton families pass through its doors. Its distinctive architecture — sleek lines, ornate detailing — remains as striking today as it was opening day.
In 1995, the theater was purchased by the Brock family, who dedicated themselves to restoring this Anderson County landmark to its former glory. After years of careful renovation work, the Ritz reopened to the public in May 2000 — with October Sky as its first feature film, a fitting tribute to the spirit of the region.
Today Ritz shows first-run movies alongside concerts, gospel singings, and community events — keeping Anderson County's tradition of coming together alive, one screening at a time.
